Gang of robbers busted; 2 held

AMRITSAR: CIA staff today arrested two miscreants for robbing devotees who had come to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi.The accused were identified as Gurmeet Singh alias Pappu of Delhi, who now stays in Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar here, and Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lucky, of the same locality.

CIA staff today arrested two miscreants for robbing devotees who had come to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi.The accused were identified as Gurmeet Singh alias Pappu of Delhi, who now stays in Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar here, and Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lucky, of the same locality.

They made the victims fell asleep after offering them langar laced with some intoxicant tablets. Later, the accused took away their mobile phones, purse and other valuables. The police have recovered as many as 15 mobile phones and 100 intoxicant tablets from their possession. A case under Sections 328, 379 and 411 of the Indian Penal code (IPC) has been registered against them.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they had committed similar robberies at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Anandpur Sahib and other religious shrines.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Gagan Ajit Singh said after repeated instances of robbery, police teams were on alert.

He said the accused confessed that they had more accomplices involved in the gang and interrogation was under progress to identify and arrest them.

The DCP said the accused used to perform sewa at langar halls of the shrines and identify their targets having expensive mobiles and jewellery. They used to keep a watch on them. When the victims got semi-conscious due to the intoxicants given by the accused, they used to rob them.

He said similar cases were registered against them in Delhi and Anandpur Sahib.
