With the city witnessing frequent rain for a week, the construction work of Mall Road is getting delayed. Employees of the Municipal Corporation (MC) say the portion, which is to be repaired, gets filled with rainwater frequently, thus proving a hurdle in the repair work.

It is worth mentioning here that over 400 sq yard of the road, near the Municipal Corporation Commissioner’s office, had caved in due to heavy rain on September 23 last year. The MC had assured its recarpeting till December. The work has jumped several deadlines.

Commuters on Mall Road have been facing inconvenience due to routine traffic jams. Moreover, the the traffic has been diverted through BRTS track, which affects the metro bus operations.

Former Congress leader Mandeep Singh Manna had staged a protest at the spot recently over the delay. “We are making efforts but rain is delaying the work,” said Municipal Corporation employees who were trying to drain the rainwater out of that road portion.

Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu has assured that the recarpeting of the road will be completed soon. “We can’t compromise with quality. We understand the inconvenience being faced by commuters.”
