French woman loses money, passport to pickpocket

Amritsar: A pickpocket stole Indian and European currency along with passport from a French woman at Model Town Temple here yesterday. The victim has been identified as Evelyne Bertrand, from French national. In her complaint, 

 Evelyne stated to the police that she was standing in a queue outside the temple when someone stole her money and documents. She stated that Rs 5,000 in Indian currency, 35 Euros, a French passport, two debit cards and a pen drive were missing from her bag. The cantonment police registered a case under Section 379, IPC. 

Thieves arrested 

Some alert residents nabbed two thieves, who were trying to steal an Activa scooter from Ranjit Avenue Market. The arrested accused has been identified as Navdeep Singh and Sandeep, both residents of Akali Colony on Sultanwind Road. In her complaint at the Civil Lines police station, the owner of scooter, 

 Sapra, stated that she worked at IAF Global Immigration Passport Office, B Block Ranjit Avenue. She parked her black colour Activa outside the office. At 5 pm, she saw from window that the accused were putting key in her Activa scooter. When they were unable to unlock the vehicle, they broke its lock. As the accused were about to take away the scooter Sapra raised an alarm immediately and nabbed the accused with help of the public. The accused were handed over to the police. The police has registered a case under relevant sections in this connection.

Four snatchers arrested 

The city police claims to have arrested four snatchers, who used to snatch handbags from women by putting chili powder in their eyes. 

 The accused have been identified as Atul Chawla, Arim Chopra, residents of Shrifpura , Money Sharma and Amit Sharma, residents of Batala Road. The police recovered a motorcycle, an Activa scooter and mobile phones from the accused. Police officials are expecting that the accused would confess to more crimes during further investigation. — TNS
