Four arrested for gang rape

A day after a 32-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped in Rajasansi, the Amritsar rural police on Wednesday arrested four persons in this connection.

Those arrested were identified as Ajmer Singh, alias Jasmer Singh, of Harsha Chhina (now residing at Kiran Colony, Gumtala Chowk), Jit Singh of Harsha Chhinna, Resham Singh of Uccha Kila Harsha Chhina (now in Ladeh village) and Balwant Singh, alias Villa, of Khatrai Khurd village.

They have been booked under Section 376-D of the IPC by the Rajasansi police.

In her complaint to the police, the victim stated that she worked as a domestic help in Gumtala. On February 17, after completing her work for the day, she was heading towards her home. At 7 pm, when she was waiting for a bus to Ajanala near Gurdwara Morcha Sahib at Rajsansi, she saw four persons standing there. “I enquired about the bus timings from them. They took me in their white car towards the canal road where I was raped,” she said.

According to her, while they were consuming liquor, she got the phone of one of them and phoned a friend in her village. After sometime, when they were drunk, she ran from the cattle yard and reached the main road.

Parampal Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amritsar rural, said that with the help of the phone number, the police identified the main accused and arrested him. Later, acting on the information he provided regarding the other accused, all of them were arrested. He said the medical examination of the woman was conducted and further investigation was under way.

The case

  • A 32-year-old woman, who works as a domestic help, was waiting for a bus in Rajasansi at 7 pm on February 17. 
  • She enquired about the bus from four persons who took her in their car towards the canal road where they raped her in a cattle yard.
  • When they were drunk, she managed to use the phone of one of them to call her friend in her village. She also ran away from there.
  • Later, the police identified the accused through the mobile number.
