Amritsar, June 24

Ramandeep Singh, a former employee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), who threw his resignation on the face of SGPC president to protest against the repeated incidents of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today.

It was declared in the presence of AAP’s national organisation-building head Durgesh Pathak and head of the legal cell, Himmat Singh Shergill. Ramandeep Singh belongs to Goluchakk village in district Amritsar and was serving the SGPC for a long time. After joining the AAP, Ramandeep Singh said, “Both the Punjab Government and the SGPC are equally responsible for the desecration incidents happened in the state as neither the SGPC could pressurise the government to take action against those responsible nor the Punjab Government acted against them. A respected institution like the SGPC has become a mouthpiece of the Badal family in the last few years. During my job, I have seen widespread corruption in the SGPC just like the Punjab Government.”

Zone in charge Gurinder Singh and zone observer Romi Bhati welcomed the decision of Ramandeep Singh to join the AAP.
