With fog enveloping the city outskirts from evening till morning, motorists find driving a Herculean task. Traffic experts are of the view that the traffic police and transport officials should scale up their activities to avert any accident.

Dense fog has not yet gripped the city, but it is seen enveloping the highways on the city outskirts.

Meanwhile, the onus lies with the drivers who have to undertake various measures to avert mishaps. These measures include setting the headlights on low beam. Driving at a slow speed can better equip one to react to the sudden appearing traffic from the veil of the fog.

Amid low visibility, sounds of the approaching vehicles, like tyres and horns, can help estimate the distance. So, while driving through fog, keep music off and roll down window glasses, say experts.

Using blinking indicators to signal others about approaching vehicles is of great help. A good distance from other vehicles must be maintained and one shouldn’t try to overtake.

Besides, one should blow horn repeatedly and turn on heater as fog outside often causes condensation inside.

Fog results in a number of mishaps across the country every year.
