Five persons were booked for alleged firing into the air over a road rage in Varana village, 12 km from here, late on Saturday evening. They did so to scare a car-borne man with whom they had a verbal duel over seeking passage.

According to information, Sub-Inspector (SI) Balbir Singh, investigating officer, said the accused had been identified as Surjit Singh and Rasal Singh of the same village. Three others are yet to be identified.

The SI said the case was registered on the complaint of Gurpreet Singh of Varana. Gurpreet was returning to the village in his car when he demanded passage for his vehicle from the accused, who allegedly fired into the air to scare him.

Sections 341, 336, 506, 148, 149 of the Indian Penal Code, and 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act have been slapped.

In the past couple of days, a number of firing incidents have been reported from different parts of the district.
