Amritsar, April 21

A private firm’s collection agent was robbed of Rs 30,000, a mobile phone and his wallet near Tangra here on Friday. He was returning to Amritsar after collecting loan instalments from clients of the company.

Victim Mustaq Ahmad, who resides in Gopal Nagar, Majitha road, stated to the police that he had been working as a collection branch manager for Satin Credit Care Network Limited in Gopal Nagar. He said when he was coming back to the city on his bike after collecting instalments, three men intercepted him near the drain at Nangal Punnuan village. The accused had covered their faces and were armed with a pistol.

They pointed the pistol at him and snatched his bag containing Rs 30,000 cash, a mobile and his wallet. They fled away towards Naag Kalan village after committing the crime.

Jugal Kishore, investigating officer, said that a case under Section 379-B of the IPC and 25, 54, 59 under the Arms Act was registered.

The incident has once again highlighted the fact that cash collection agents of private finance firms are an easy target of robbers.

On April 11, Sajan Singh, a field officer of the same company was looted by three unknown persons when he along with a colleague was returning after collecting loan instalments. The accused had taken away Rs 24,000 from him.

On March 16, two robbers had taken away Rs 1 lakh from a collection agent, Bidhi Chand, at Teda Kalan village.

Amanpreet Kaur of the same firm was robbed of Rs 1.23 lakh and another collection agent, Munish Kumar, was looted in April and August last year, respectively. An employee of another private firm was robbed of Rs 60,000 in July 2017. Similarly, an employee of a Delhi-based finance firm was looted of Rs 5.60 lakh from Green Avenue in May 2016.
