Feedback mechanism must for BRTS success

Students of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Amritsar, conducted a study on the trial run of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in which they have concluded that lack of feedback mechanism has resulted in a loss to the authorities concerned.

Following reports that the state government will relaunch the project, the students chose the BRTS stand as their subject of the study.

The study was conducted by Sandesh Oggu, Gunjan Neware, and Saumya Singh, under their supply chain management course. Sandeep said, “We travelled and met people and staff. There is a need of a feedback mechanism as in case of the bus service of Ahmedabad. We are focusing on feedback so that the service can improve.”

Gunjan said people had a good option of auto-rickshaws as they can make the autos stop at any point to alight. Besides, they have to pay only Rs 10 and moreover they do not have to travel to the bus stop.

Students also came across that the project has resulted in a loss of around Rs 10 crores.

Saumya Singh said, “The project should have been marketed properly. The participation of people is required.”

Assistant professor Neeraj Bhanot, said, “The buses should be run on the basis of population numbers rather than routes. The study was based on the trial run for two years 2016-2017.”
