Amritsar, April 12

The 6 am bicycle tours of the narrow bylanes of the walled city will introduce you to new experiences that Amritsar, famous for its street food and Golden Temple, has to offer. Away from the maddening traffic or the chaos of being a city under development, Amritsar has a serene, quaint side that is open for experience. City on Pedals, a start-up, taps that unexplored territory.

A three-month old venture, City on Pedals cashes on the concept of eco-tourism by offering city bicycle tours to tourists. “We have designed several cycle tours for morning and evening, keeping in mind the unique heritage of the city. Our tours are designed to give a typical Amritsar experience, not just visiting places and clicking pictures, but also experiencing life as a local,” informs Rishab, who conceptualised the idea.

“We scout places that are relatively lesser known yet have a lot history behind them. Like the Darshan Deori, which is over 200 years old and doesn’t get much tourist traffic. From exploring the architectural heritage of the walled city to visiting places like Pul Kanjri or Wagah border, the idea is to do something different,” he says.

Expanding with the village tours and special designed eco-tours, Rishab says that the potential market for bicycle tourism is encouraging. “Otherwise, the tourism industry is quite saturated in the city and one has to offer something that gives a holistic experience of Amritsar.”
