Ex-sarpanch booked for breach of trust

AMRITSAR: The Rajasansi police have booked a former Sarpanch of Sansra Kalan village, identified as Sukhdev Singh, for allegedly bungling grants sanctioned by the government for various development works.

The Rajasansi police have booked a former Sarpanch of Sansra Kalan village, identified as Sukhdev Singh, for allegedly bungling grants sanctioned by the government for various development works.

A case under Section 409 of the IPC (criminal breach of trust by a public servant) was registered against the sarpanch following a complaint lodged by the block development and panchayat officer (BDPO), Mela Singh. The BDPO stated to the police that the accused misappropriated government grants to the tune of over Rs 90,000.

According to the complaint lodged by the BDPO, the accused had withdrawn the amount in January 2008 for development works in village. However, he used the same for his personal work.

Investigating officer Narinder Singh said the case was registered after taking opinion of the district attorney and orders of the SSP, Amritsar rural. He said further investigation was under progress while not arrest had been made so far.
