The elections process has already ended, but the posters of political parties are still defacing a number of walls in the city. Though the MC took up a drive to remove posters and banners, a large number of posters are still there which have failed to draw the attention of the civic body officials.

MC employees say major election material, such as flex board, billboards, banners and flags can be removed easily, but the posters pasted on walls can’t be removed easily as strong chemical is used to ensure their longevity.

While removing, most of the posters get torn. Half-torn posters are defacing several walls in the localities and at main roads.

Joti Bawa, a social activist, said, “Political parties should not paste wall posters by violating the poll code. If they display, it is their moral responsibility to remove the posters after elections. Though MC employees have removed or torn posters, it doest look decent.”

Officials of the advertisement wing of the MC claimed that they had removed almost every poster and other election material from main roads and localities. But the political parties have pasted such posters in the inner streets and mohallas (localities).

“Morally, the activists of political parties should remove the posters. Political activists make such efforts in a few cities. Local activists should also show concern towards cleanliness,” said an MC official, who didn’t wish to be named.
