An elderly woman was attacked in Roop Nagar, near Gate Hakima police station, last evening. She has sustained critical head injury.

Identified as Rama Rani (65), the victim is under treatment at a private hospital. Though she is yet to record her statement, the police have booked her kin on the complaint of her daughter-in-law Anuradha.

Anuradha said Raman Kumar, a distant relative of Rama Rani, had come to her house in the afternoon. He was talking to Rama Rani while she (Anuradha) went to another room to take a rest. Raman left after sometime but returned claiming that he had forgotten his mobile phone.

After hearing some noise, when Anuradha came out, she saw Rama Rani bleeding profusely and Raman was calling her for help. However, when she noticed a sharp-edged weapon in his hand, he ran out of the house and raised the alarm.

The police said the reason behind the attack was yet to be ascertained as Rama Rani was not fit to record her statement. Raman is said to be a drug addict. “For the time being, we are registering a case against Raman Kumar on the statement of victim’s daughter-in-law,” said Jagtar Singh, SHO, Gate Hakima police station.
