Amritsar: In a joint operation, BSF and counter intelligence sleuths seized nine packets (3.98 kg) of drugs, suspected to be heroin, and one packet (100 gm) of opium near the Kakkar border outpost on Wednesday. Based on an input, a joint search was launched during which the drugs were seized. The contraband was buried in the fields near the Pakistan border.

Girl harassed, one booked

Tarn Taran: Jagtej Singh of Sarhali village, 22 km from here, has been booked for allegedly harassing a girl of the same village. The victim told the police that the accused was her former classmate and he had been pressurising her for marriage. She said he uploaded her photos on the internet. A case has been registered against him and he is at large, the police said.

Banker booked for fraud

Tarn Taran: Ashwani Kumar, manager of the HDFC Bank's Harike branch, along with Karam Singh of Jauneke village have been booked for allegedly defrauding a woman of the same village of Rs 30,20,303. Victim Baljinder kaur (75), a cancer patient, stated in her police complaint that she had a joint account with Karam Singh, her kin, and he withdrew the money in connivance with the branch manager without her consent around one and a half year ago. They have been booked under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC.
