A dispute between a couple over the custody of their child took an ugly turn when the mother of the child along with her family members and relatives allegedly barged into her in-laws house and abducted her husband and thrashed him.

The incident occurred on Monday while a case was registered only last evening after the husband escaped from their illegal detention and was admitted to a government hospital at Manawala.

Amandeep Singh, son of Satpal Singh, a resident of Rayya, now residing in Chohan village said to the police, he along with his son Jashandeep Singh had gone to his maternal grandparent’s home at Chohan village. He alleged his wife Sukhwinder Kaur, along with her relatives Mukhtiar Singh of Dhiyanpur, Gurmej Singh of Rayya, Sukhraj Singh, Bali and three unidentified persons barged into his residence at Chohan village.

While shouting to kidnap Jashandeep, the suspects started thrashing the complainant and his relatives. He said when her maternal aunt tried to intervene she was pushed away by the accused. The accused also took away Rs 13,000 from his pocket and bundled him in their SUV driven by Sukhraj Singh. He alleged they took him to Sikander Singh’s residence at Baba Bakala where they continue to beat him.

He said they tried to forcibly take his signatures on blank stamp papers. Yesterday he lodged a complaint with the police. A case under section 365, 452, 506, 323, 148 and 149 IPC was registered in this regard while Mukhtiar Singh and Gurmej Singh were arrested by the police.
