Dip in temperature for the last couple of days has finally marked the arrival of a chilly winter for residents of the city. People could be seen covering themselves from head to toe to brave the cold wave through the day.

The residents today woke up to a foggy morning and a mild sunshine during the day. The temperature was reported as low as 5.7 Celsius degree. The temperature went down after light showers in the city during the past couple of days.

Roadside traditional snacks sold by street vendors have tickled the taste buds of people to have a jovial time in the winter.

Bonfires to beat the seasonal blues have also become a common sight, especially during the night. People and children could be seen huddled around the fire at various spots.

City resident Sachin Kumar, an employee of a private firm, said, “It has been chilly weather for the past couple of days. But, personally, relishing a pack of peanuts with my family is one of my favourite things to do in this season. There has been a remarkable dip in temperature for the past few days.”

Colourful leather jackets, caps and woollens are adding to the style statement of the people. On keeping oneself warm, most of the health experts feel that one should consume traditional items such as gur (jaggery), sweet potatoes, nuts , dry fruits, ginger and Tulsi to keep oneself warm along with fighting health- related problems such as cough or cold and other ailments. Megha Khanna, a health expert, said, “One can eat pepper, ‘heeng’, have black-bean soup, fruits, seasonal vegetables and nuts. One should take good care of oneself.”
