Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) officiating president Dhanraj Singh announced support to Majithia-Ankhi group on Sunday. The elections of over a century old CKD is slated for December 2. Now, Charanjit Singh Chadha group is expected to face a tough fight from the group of Rajmohinder Singh Majithia and Bhag Singh Ankhi. As many as 12 members have filed nomination papers.

Dhanraj announced support after attending a meeting with Nirmal Singh Thekedar and Sawinder Singh Rumaliya Wala who are contesting the elections for the posts of president and honorary, respectively, on behalf of Majithia-Ankhi group.

Dhanraj Singh said, “Hurt by the past incidents, I wish the administration of the Chief Khalsa Diwan to fall in right hands.” Obviously, he was referring to the embarrassing episode involving former CKD president Charanjit Singh Chadha, whose “sleazy” video with a woman school principal had gone viral.

He anticipated that the group led by Nirmal Singh would stand true on the expectations of sangat and Diwan members as they would work for the Panth.

Thekedar and Rumaliya Wala thanked Dhanraj Singh for his support. They said the victory of their group was imminent. They said their primary objectives would be focused on restoring the reputation and credibility of the Diwan, spreading the message of Sikhism and improving the administrative set-up of Diwan.

The CKD will hold general elections mainly for six posts — president, two vice-presidents, two honorary secretaries and local president.

It has 433 members, maximum of whom are in Amritsar. Rest of the members are in Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur and others states of the country.
