Amritsar, August 10

District health officials organised an event at Government Senior Secondary School, Nwa Kot, to create awareness about the deworming campaign. The drive was inaugurated by Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai by administering a de-worming tablet to a girl student.

Ghai said de-worming was necessary. If neglected, it can give rise to many other problems, he said. The tablets are being given to the students free of cost. A mop-up campaign, for those who were not covered in the drive conducted earlier, would be conducted on August 17. The children in the age group of one year to 19 years are being given these tablets.

District Immunisation Officer Dr Ramesh Pal Singh said 2.10 lakh children at 1,313 government and government-aided schools, three lakh children at 830 private schools and 1.70 children at anganwadi centres would be covered during the drive.
