Desecration accused on police remand

Ranjit Masih of Talwandi Bhangwan, the prime accused in the desecration case, was produced in the local court in Ajnala today. He was sent to police custody till August 14. Also Jugraj Singh of Talwandi Bhangwan and Gurjit Singh of Madhu Chhanga village, who were among the mob that had attacked a police party to take away Masih, have been remanded to police custody until August 14.

Masih was arrested on August 8 for tearing over 20 pages of Guru Granth Sahib at Talwandi Bhangwa village near Ramdas. His act was captured in the CCTV camera of the shrine.

When a police team, headed by SHO Vipan Kumar, had reached the village to arrest the accused, a large number of villagers, seeking his custody, had attacked the cops and also roughed up the SHO. The police somehow managed to take the accused away.

The accused, identified as Kulwinder Singh, Robin, Geeta Pehlwan and 25 unidentified persons, had been booked for attacking the police.
