Dengue awareness campaign kicks off

The Health Department organised a rickshaw rally to create awareness about dengue as a part of National Dengue Day event here on Wednesday.

While flagging off the rally, Civil Surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai said dengue is easily preventable provided people take required precautions at the earliest.

Later an awareness seminar was held at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nwa Kot. Speaking on the occasion, district epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan said people should devote a day in a week to check dengue menace.

Dr Mohan said that check on mosquito breeding can prevent malaria and dengue. The department also organised a painting competition for the students and winners were given awards.

Senior Medical Officer Dr Amarjit Singh Sachdeva said, “Efforts are being made to check mosquito breeding at public places. It is the duty of residents to ensure that there coolers and water tanks are properly covered as dengue larva breeds in fresh water.
