DC forms committee to monitor Jallianwala Bagh episode’s centenary

AMRITSAR: The Deputy Commissioner on Thursday constituted a team to monitor the preparations for the upcoming centenary commemoration of the Jallainwala Bagh massacre.

The Deputy Commissioner on Thursday constituted a team to monitor the preparations for the upcoming centenary commemoration of the Jallainwala Bagh massacre. Chairing the meeting, Sangha invited suggestions to host activities relating to the 100th anniversary of the Jallainwala Bagh massacre.

The Central and the state governments have already announced a relay of cultural and political activities to mark the occassion. “The committee will organise and facilitate awareness as well as commemorative programmes to reach out to youth. We will also tie-up with educational institutions in the city to ensure maximum participation from youngsters. The committee will hold conceptualising cultural activities for the celebrations,” said Sangha.

The committee comprises eminent members as well as administrative officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ravinder Singh, theatre personality Kewal Dhaliwal, playwright Jatinder Brar, Prof SS Behl, Dean, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Dr Mehal Sungh, principal, Khalsa College, and Preeti Gill from Majha House.

The committee aims at creating awareness among people regarding the important historical event.
