The colleges and schools under the Khalsa College Governing Council celebrated the festival of Lohri on Sunday. Girls wore traditional dresses to celebrate the festivals at Khalsa College for Women (KCW), Khalsa College of Education (KCE) and Khalsa College Public School (KCPS), Heir, amid exuberance and fanfare.

KCGC honorary secretary RMS Chhina conveyed warm wishes to the students, teachers and staff members. He said Lohri was the harvest festival of Punjab, famously known as the bread-basket state of India.

KCW Principal Dr Manpreet Kaur stressed on the need to educate girls to make them self-reliant. Students, clad in colorful traditional dresses, resorted to dance and singing at the KCE. Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur said the society needed to change its mindset and girl education was must. At Khalsa College Public School, Heir, Principal Gurinderjit Kaur Kamboj ignited the bonfire. The students and teachers sang songs immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab. A kite-flying competition was also organised.
