Amritsar, August 17

Acting on the orders of a lower court, a bailiff on Saturday came to the District Congress Committee (Rural) office, located at Albert road, for taking possession of the property. The Congress party has lost the legal battle in November 2017. However, Congress leaders did not vacate the property while seeking time.

BS Sachar, president of the District Congress Committee (Rural), said the party had lost the case in a lower court in 2017. The court has now ordered execution of its orders following an appeal by the complainants and legal heirs of Dalip Singh Majithia. He said the court had given time till August 20 and they would file an appeal in a higher court.

The 3,000-yard land was donated by Dalip Singh on January 26, 1977, and the foundation stone of the District Congress Committee (Rural) office was laid by Gurdial Singh Dhillon, the then Union Minister for Shipping and Transport. He donated the land for opening the office. However, the party has now constructed shops at the land which hasn’t gone down well with his legal heirs and they approached the court for taking its possession.
