Amritsar, October 11

A local court has acquitted Gurjinder Singh Kala, who was arrested in 2013 for drug peddling.

Kala, along with his cousin Balwinder Singh Hawelian, was arrested after the police had claimed that the duo was named by two persons Ripudaman Singh and Baljinder Singh, who had already been nabbed with one kg of heroin.

Their counsels Vipul Jindal and Raviraj Singh Bhullar said the court acquitted Gurjinder as it felt that the prosecution had failed to bring on record sufficient, cogent and convincing evidence to prove guilt of the accused.

Earlier, the FIR against Ripudaman Singh and Baljinder Singh was also quashed on the instructions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC). At the time of accusing Gurjinder Singh and Balwinder Singh of supplying heroin, the local police had claimed it as a major achievement.
