Amritsar: The police have booked a Mohali-based couple for allegedly duping a local resident on the pretext of sending her abroad. The accused couple, identified as Arwind Asht and his wife Tanisha Asht, are residents of Sector 71, Mohali. Sandeep Kaur, the wife of Kanwar Nitish Dadwal, a resident of Chak Mishri Khan village, in a complaint to the Lopoke police said the accused had taken Rs 8 lakh from her on the promise of sending her abroad. A complaint was then lodged in August this year with the DSP, Ajnala, who carried out an investigation in the case. During the probe, the accused were found guilty and now an FIR under Sections 420 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against them. TNS

Youth killed in mishap

A youth, identified as Sukhdev Singh, was killed and his friend Gurjit Singh was injured when a speeding car hit their bike near Mallian village here last evening. Hardev Singh, the brother of the deceased and a resident of Balian Manjhpur village, said his brother Sukhdev Singh and Gurjit Singh were going on their bike to buy some clothes in Jandiala town. When they reached near Mallian village, a car collided with them. They sustained serious injuries in the mishap and Sukhdev Singh died on his way to hospital. The police have booked Phool Chand, a resident of UP, presently living in Sant Avenue here. A case under Sections 304-A, 279 and 337 of the IPC was registered against him. TNS
