Amritsar, January 20

Finally a month after the civic body elections, the elected councillors of the Municipal Corporation (MC) will take oath on Tuesday. However, the Congress leadership hasn’t announced the mayor’s name.

The civic body elections were held in December last year but the oath was not administered to the councillors. The Congress had managed to gain majority in the polls but unanimity over the name of mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor is not visible in the party camp.

It is expected that the names of mayor and other posts would be announced on Monday. However, there is no official confirmation in this regard. According to information, the MC office will conduct an oath-taking ceremony of councillors on January 23 and it will be administrated in the presence of Jalandhar Division Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhary.

Sources informed that the MC office in Amritsar had received letter from Jalandhar division about conducting oath ceremony so now the office concerned has informed newly-elected councillors about the event.

Councillor Raj Kamal Preet Singh, a senior Congress leader, confirmed that they were going to conduct an oath-taking ceremony for 85 newly-elected councillors on Tuesday.
