Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said here today that Congress leaders were under compulsion to give a clean chit to the accused of 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi.

He was speaking during a programme organised for distributing tube well connections to farmers at Kathunangal. He said people all over the world knew who had instigated the mob which led to the riots. He said the prime suspects in the riots were rewarded with plum posts and positions in the Congress government. He alleged that the repeated appointment of the accused as MPs and ministers was a clear indication of who was behind the riots. He was referring to a statement of Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh, who later denied giving a clean chit to Jagdish Tytler. Capt Amarinder said he never gave a clean chit to anyone. He said he only stated that he had met anti-Sikh riot victims, who did not mention the name of Tytler while they had given the names of the other suspects. He pointed out that those who had studied the riots were of the firm view that it was due to the sheltering provided by the Congress to its leaders due to which the victims were deprived of justice for the past 32 years. — TNS
