A commercial building near Lawrence Road, lying closed for a long time, collapsed due to heavy rain on Sunday afternoon. Two cars and a motorcycle parked near the building were damaged. No harm to any person has been reported. Passersby had a narrow escape when shutters of the shops fell down on the road.

There were two abandoned shops in the building, which were damaged by a pipal tree gradually. Shopkeepers nearby stated that the tree had damaged the walls and the roof. They said building collapse was imminent in such a situation.

Sunil Kumar said, “The incident happened at around 3:30 pm when heavy water lashed the city. The roof of the building collapsed all of a sudden. The shutter and debris fell down on the cars and bike.”

The shopkeepers said the building was not much old but in deplorable condition. No one in the area known who the building owner is.
