The newly elected president of Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) Nirmal Singh along with other office bearers on Monday paid obeisance at Golden Temple before occupying their seats officially. Jaswinder Singh, manager, Golden Temple, presented them with siropas and a model of the temple.

Condemning the Pulwama attack, Nirmal Singh said the CKD intends to provide free education to the children of martyred soldiers. “The proceedings in this direction will be initiated soon officially as a gesture from our part towards the kin of our brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the sake of nation”, he said.

Despite bringing the transparency in administration, the prime focus would be to bring back the lost glory of the institution by implementing the original constituents of the constitution of the CKD. He said vocational courses would be introduced and the deserving Gursikh students would be given scholarship and other incentives.

“We will try to raise the standard of education in our institutions besides contributing for the social cause, curtailing the unnecessary expenditures. We will also try to stem the trend of ‘patit’ among the children from early age by imparting them religious, moral and ethics of Sikhism from Class VI”, he said.

Vice-presidents Dr Inderjit Singh Nijjar and Amarjit Singh Vikrant, honorary secretaries Sawinder Singh Kathunangal and Surinder Singh Rumalianwale, besides Rajmohinder Singh Majithia, Bhag Singh Ankhi and Bhagwantpal Singh Sachar were present.—TNS
