Civic body panel to look into hotel case

The MC has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Joint Commissioner Sourabh Arora regarding compounding case of the buildings of Hotel 49 Golden Avenue and Army Gun House. The committee includes Joint Commissioner Sourabh Arora, ward 47 councillor Jatinder Kaur, ward 22 councillor Monica Sharma, Senior Town Planner Tejpreet Singh, Municipal Town Planner IPS Randhawa, the concerned assistant town planner of the area, a superintending engineer (O&M) and deputy comptroller.

The committee will examine both the cases in detail to ascertain under which circumstances the compounding of these building was done. The report would be submitted to the Mayor by June 14.

It is worth mentioning that during the recent MC House meeting, councillor Mahesh Khanna had accused Municipal Town Planner Iqbalpreet Singh Randhawa of violating building bylaws. He raised several questions on the integrity of the MTP and senior MC officials. A heated argument was witnessed between Mahesh Khanna and MC Commissioner Sonali Giri when Khanna demanded their lie detector test. Intervening in the matter, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu had announced to conduct an inquiry. — TNS
