Amritsar, March 18

The Municipal Corporation (MC) has installed new bins for segregation of garbage in the city. Such bins can be seen alongside roads, roundabouts and markets to give an impetus to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Separate bins for non-biodegradable and biodegradable garbage have been installed. MC officials have asked the shopkeepers and commuters to use the bins to avoid challans.

The health wing has started issuing challans for dumping garbage on or along road and markets. It has been learnt that residents have been dumping the garbage outside their shops instead of bins. The vendors and shopkeepers have damaged some of the bins installed by the MC in Putaligarh as they don’t want bins near their vends or shops.

MC officials said they had also identified the locations to install the smart bins where garbage would be collected in an underground pit.

Meanwhile, the solid waste management firm hasn’t given green and blue bins to households in many areas till date. The company has been collecting garbage door-to-door.
