The city police has been gearing up to nail the accused in the snatching instances which have brought a bad name to the holy city that is visited by hundreds of tourists from across the country and foreign shores also.

Police Commissioner G Nageshwara Rao has directed the PCR teams to curb such incidents. He not only ordered an increase in the quota of fuel to them, but also assured them to provide the necessary infrastructure, including new wireless sets. He has also directed officials to prepare a data of history- sheeters and keep a watch on their activities.

The city has been continuously witnessing snatching incidents and robberies. Besides initiating various steps, the police has been facing a tough time in nailing the snatchers. The Police Commissioner said the majority of snatchers came from the neighbouring police districts and they were also planning to involve police officials of these districts in order to arrest the culprits. The majority of snatchers were drug addicts, which was one of the main causes of repeated snatching instances.

The PCR teams have been equipped with CCTV cameras inside their PCR vans. He said these would also be installed in the vehicles of all SHOs of various police stations. The police teams would also be present in civil clothes in order to nab the snatchers who escaped after committing crimes.

“We are very serious about the problem. It would be our priority to stop snatching instances and put anti-social elements behind the bars,” he added.
