City-based girl, Deepika Bhatia will soon fly to Canada to showcase her nanotechnology project of purifying Buddha Nullah at Ludhiana during the annual convention of University of Alberta (Edmonton) in Canada.
The convention “IC-Impacts-2016” will be held from May 28 to June 8 on the university campus. Deepika, a research scholar at Lovely University, was also appointed as junior research fellow (JRF) for the IC Impacts, a Government of India funded project.
Giving more information about her green project, Deepika said she had centered her research on textile dyeing industry in Ludhiana and a local drain “Buddha Nullah, which flows through the city.
Deepika said, “Buddha Nullah is the most polluted drain. It carries industrial toxins to Satluj river, which serves polluted water to a large population. Scientifically speaking my proposal is based on cheap sources from corn-cob in the form of column and modified nano-biochar particles for water purification. The water to be purified will be passed through these columns. It takes long hours before it becomes useful.”
Deepika said she had already collected waste water and isolated potent dye degrading bacteria. Finally for examination, the group of bacteria was developed in the form of bio-filters for purification, under green technology processes.
The Indo-Canadian-Impact Summer Institute is an annual programme that updates Canadian and Indian graduates’ skills in research, innovation, commercialization and leadership. It helps in building healthy communities in Canada and India, besides creating long term, meaningful connections between students, researchers, and industry around the world. Only 50 students were selected throughout the world to attend this programme.
LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal congratulated Deepika and inspired her to prove her work as an asset to global society.
