Amritsar, January 9

In a letter to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, senior BJP leader and former Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla has requested him to inspect conditions in which people are living. She said, “Local leaders and officials take VVIPs only on those roads, which are well maintained. They never tell them about real conditions of the city.”

“VVIPs and foreign dignitaries are often picked from the airport and taken to Golden Temple through the route, which is beautified. They give a wrong impression to visitors, who feel that the entire city is in the same condition,” she added.

She said, “I wonder how the Municipal Infrastructure Development Authority declared Amritsar fit for smart city tag.” She has invited Arun Jaitley to visit parts of the city, which have not been shown to him and see the conditions in which people are living. She said city faced problems of cleanliness, stray animals, sewerage, broken roads and many others, which need to be addressed.
