Amritsar, December 6

The senior BJP leader and former cabinet minister, Laxmi Kanta Chawla, today urged Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to start the pension to genuine beneficiaries of old age, handicap, widow and orphans besides restarting the pensioner benefits which has been discontinued by the government.

She urged the CM to not have discontinued the pensions in the name of verification. She pointed out that in year 2000, the then Congress government, had stopped these benefits of around 35,000 pensioners due to which even the genuine beneficiaries suffered a lot.

She said she was not advocating sparing the guilty or fake beneficiaries. She said they should be punished, but the genuine people should not be suffered for this. She said these people pay regularly visits to various government departments for their pensions and returned empty handed as the government had discontinued the pensions. — TNS
