Amritsar, September 24
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has announced to start construction of Jiwan Jyoti Church in Gurbax Nagar from September 26, which was earlier stopped by a few Hindu organisations.
In a press conference here today, BSP zonal in charge Rohit Khokhar said, “Party workers will start construction on their own as the local administration has failed to take an impartial stand.”
The tiff between church and Hindu organisations had came to light in August last year after a few residents of the area had written to the Union Home Ministry stating that the church would instigate people to change their religion.
Khokhar said the church had been at the place for the last decade and half. “When the church authorities decided to renovate the building, a few Hindu Organisations stopped the work. Nobody should prevent a community from construction of its religious place,” he said.
“The police and the administration have not helped in construction of the building. As such we will initiate construction from September 26,” he added.
