Safai Mazdoor Union poll

Amritsar: The Safai Mazdoor Union of the Municipal Corporation constituted a new team to represent the body at Company Bagh here on Saturday. A large number of safai karamcharis participated at the meeting and discussed issues before them. The union members unanimously elected Sanjay Khosla as the president and Veer Inderjit Singh as general secretary of the union. Speaking on the occasion, Khosla stated they had been facing several problems, but no union was raising their issues. He said there were around 2,200 safai karamcharis working with the MC. A number of employees had completed provisional service, but the government had not regularised their jobs. The union would struggle  against the delay in payment of salaries and take up other issues. TNS 

Women Cricket League held 

A local hospital recently organised the Women Cricket League in the city, which concluded on Friday. As many as four teams, including the Amandeep Cricket Academy (ACA), BBK DAV College for Women, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mall road, and Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Verka, participated in the league. The final match was played between Amandeep Cricket Academy (ACA) and the BBK DAV College teams. Batting first, the ACA scored just 78 runs at a loss of 10 wickets in 20 overs. BBK DAV Team scored the required runs in the 19th over and lifted the trophy. TNS

Man kills self, wife booked

Tarn Taran: Gurmeet Kaur of the nearby Kadgill village and her parents have been booked under Sections 306 and120-B, IPC, by the local Sadar police for abetting suicide by Gurmeet’s husband. Surjit Singh (30) had consumed some poisonous substance on Friday and he died in an Amritsar hospital soon after the incident. OC
