A book titled ‘Itihaas vich Mazhabi Sikh’ (History of Mazhabi Sikh) was released at a function organised at Virsa Vihar on Sunday.

Written by District Language Officer Bhupinder Singh Mattu, who hails from Mazhabi Sikh community, it took 10 years for Mattu to come up with the book as he visited various libraries and met a number of people. Mattu said, “My father told me to come up with a book which talks about the community.” Priced at Rs 190, the book is a detailed literature narrating the origin of the community, its role during the era of Sikh Gurus, the contribution and responsibility in the British India, besides the various political, geographical and economic contributions to the Indian society.

“I have visited various libraries, met scholars, and consulted newspaper, census reports to pen the book. The book also includes the names of prominent members of the community,” he added.

The writer is also planning to come up with the second edition of the book to highlight the role, responsibilities and the present status of the Mazhabi Sikh community.
