Bid to murder: Ex-councillor’s aide arrested

AMRITSAR: The city police have arrested former councillor Surinder Chaudhry’s close associate, Saurav Mahajan, in connection with an attempt to murder case in which a policemen suffered a critical head injury.

The city police have arrested former councillor Surinder Chaudhry’s close associate, Saurav Mahajan, in connection with an attempt to murder case in which a policemen suffered a critical head injury.

However, Chaudhry, his son and other relatives were still out of the reach of the Police Department. They have switched off their mobile phones and the police was finding it difficult to trace their locations.

Mahajan was arrested from near 22 number railway crossing, said Sushil Kumar, SHO, Cantonment police station, here.

Meanwhile, the condition of constable Rajesh Kumar was stable but serious. He had suffered a critical head injury after the accused pelted him with bricks and stones, as the police party came to the spot following getting information about a law and order problem in a property dispute. He has undergone a surgery at a private hospital.

The police have booked Chaudhry, his son Pawan, Raj Kumar, Sanjiv and Sushil Kumar in this connection. Mahajan was nominated by the police in the later stages of the investigations. A case under Sections 307, 353 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act has been registered.
