Amritsar, December 13

A special team of architects and experts of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) visited Durgiana Temple to review the ongoing beautification project here on Wednesday. The AIT officials assured the Durgiana Temple committee that the work would be completed till January 15.

The beautification project of Durgiana Temple plaza had begun after the release of Rs 6.19 crore by the state government on December 29, 2016. The project was inaugurated by the then deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal.

In the first phase of the Rs 115-crore Durgiana Temple beautification project, the government had proposed the construction of modern plaza, landscaping, musical fountains, an open-air theatre, a beautiful gate, light-and-sound show, an auditorium, a community hall and a craft bazaar.

Harish Taneja, secretary, Durgiana Temple Committee, said, “Officials reviewed various projects and issued instructions to speed up the work. They claimed that the work of the first phase will be completed till January 15.”

In June 2018, on the lines of the Golden Temple Heritage Street, the Municipal Corporation (MC) had also announced to develop a heritage walk from Hathi Gate to Durgiana Temple. The MC will construct pedestrian zone on both sides of the road. Special road infrastructure and carpeting will be ensured to tackle the traffic issues. Space for hawkers will also be specified in the street. This project is yet to start.
