Amritsar, January 12

Despite protest by some residents against the work on laying sewage pipes in Chabba village, the gram panchayat passed a resolution and lodged a complaint against those, who were repeatedly disrupting laying of sewerage by the authorities concerned.

The Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) has forwarded a complaint to the Chatiwind police station for registration of a case against those disrupting the work.

In a resolution passed by gram panchayat it was stated that the project of laying sewerage was passed in June last year by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board. They said due to monsoons, the project was delayed as digging of land could have led to problems for villagers.

Members of panchayat said finally, the work was allotted to Public Works Department and it started in December last. However, some dairy owners were creating hurdles in the project as it would stop their practice of discarding cow waste in open drains. All residents and the panchayat was in favour of laying sewerage as it would end the problem of chocking drains and piling of filth in the village, they added. Residents had protested against the laying of sewage pipes in Chabba village on January 9 claiming that the project began just after the implementation of the model code of conduct, which was a violation.
