Amritsar, August 19

Three days after the sensational bank robbery of Rs 2.40 lakh at the Axis Bank’s Chaugwan-Khasa road branch here, the police are yet to get a breakthrough in the case. Though the police claim to have vital clues, the CCTV cameras installed nearby have been of a little help.

Now, the police have started scrutinising the call details in the area. Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural police, said the police were hoping to get some clues from the call details. “We are scrutinising the call details and movement of the persons in the area during that period,” he added.

As many as five armed persons had barged into the bank premises by breaking the glass door on August 16. The security guard of the bank was helpless as he was unarmed.

The robbers with covered faces had got the staff and customers huddled at a corner at gunpoint. They threatened to shoot them in case they resisted the crime.

They reportedly shot a fire in the air leading to panic among the customers and staff members. One of them went to the cashier’s cabin and took out Rs 2.40 lakh. The accused also took away the recorder of the CCTV.
