Assembly elections:109 file nominations

AMRITSAR: As many as 109 candidates from the 11 Assembly constituencies in the district filed their nomination papers with their respective returning officers here today.

As many as 109 candidates from the 11 Assembly constituencies in the district filed their nomination papers with their respective returning officers here today.

A total of 84 candidates had filed their papers yesterday. The number of candidates, who filed their nominations from all the constituencies in district, reached 193 today.

District election officer, Dr Basant Garg, said a maximum of 14 candidates from the Amritsar (South) constituency filed their papers today.

The other constituencies from where candidates filed their papers, include seven from Ajnala, eight from Raja Sansi, nine from Majitha, seven from Jandiala, 11 from Amritsar (North), 11 from Amritsar (West), 10 from Amritsar (Central), nine from Amritsar (East), 14 from Amritsar (South), 10 from Attari and 13 from Baba Bakala.

Prominent among those, who filed their papers today, include Inderbir Singh Bolaria of the Congress and Gurpartap Singh Tikka of SAD from the South constituency and Navjot Singh Sidhu of the Congress from Amritsar (East).

For Lok Sabha by-poll, Gurjeet Singh Aujla of the Congress filed his papers while Upkar Singh Sandhu of AAP and Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna of the BJP submitted their papers earlier. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 21. The number of candidates serious of contesting Assembly elections will be clear after the last date for withdrawal of nominations.
