Another jeweller held in robbery case

The Sultanwind police have arrested another goldsmith in connection with the robbery incident in which a jewellery shop owner, Paramjit Singh, was robbed by unidentified armed robbers on November 26.

The accused was identified as Hira Singh, alias Shabba, son of Avtar Singh, who resides in the same area of Guru Ram Dass Nagar where Paramjit Singh lives.

This is the fifth arrest in the case while one of the robbers' accomplices was still at large. Parvesh Chopra, SHO, Sultanwind police station, said that on December 23, the police had arrested four persons. They were identified as Satnam Singh, Malkiat Singh, Amandeep Singh and Sarabjit Singh. He said raids were continuing to arrest their sixth accomplice.

He said investigations revealed that they had sold the gold to Hira Singh. The police had also confiscated 40 gm gold from his possession.

On November 26, around five armed persons barged into Paramjit’s shop on the Sultanwind road at around 9.30 pm, just before he was going to close his shop. He alleged that the accused took away gold jewellery weighing around 200 gm, worth over Rs 5 lakh. The police managed to get CCTV footage of the incident in which five armed persons with covered faces were seen committing the robbery at gun point.
