Ailing inmate commits suicide in jail

A prisoner committed suicide in the hospital on the jail premises by hanging himself from a grill here on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Satinderpal Singh, a resident of Budha Teh village.

He was arrested for drug smuggling on October 27, 2013, and the court sentenced him to 10-year imprisonment on August 24, 2016.

As per information, his kidneys were damaged and he was not keeping well. On Wednesday, he complained pain in the chest. He was admitted to the hospital. On Thursday evening, the warden found that he was missing from his bed. While searching in the jail building, the staff found that he hanged himself from a grill. He was rushed to local Civil Hospital immediately where doctors declared him brought dead.

The jail staff informed the police. The autopsy has conducted under the supervision of the Magistrate on Friday. The police are investigating the matter.
