A rickshaw puller, Rajbir Singh, who wrote a book last year and got overwhelming response from readers, has come up with the second edition of the book. It was released recently. Now, after getting motivation from eminent personalities, he has started doing social work

Rajbir has been working on a novel based on the tales shared by people, who have travelled in his rickshaw in the past two decades.

Talking about his life after release of book, Rajbir says, “I am not a writer. I like myself to be recognised as a rickshaw wala who wrote a book. Rickshaw wala is my identity. A large number of passengers, who have hired my rickshaw, have bought the book. I am elated over people buying my book at book fairs.”

“Some of the writers and eminent personalities have written letters to me after reading my book. Some of the letters are part of my second book,” he says.

He has got motivation from late eminent eye surgeon Dr Daljit Singh and Inspector General of Police Kuwar Vijay Partap Rajbir Singh for social work. “I spend my whole day with fellow rickshaw pullers. They share their tales. Some of them are facing health, family and financial problems. I have installed a golak (donation box) on my rickshaw. Rickshaw pullers and passengers have started donating money. We pay for medicines, fee of students and fulfill other requirements of needy persons,” he said.

“Dr Daljit Singh, who died in December 2017, had asked me to get the needy persons operated upon free of cost at his hospital. His hospital has performed surgery on several persons,” he adds.
