Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi inaugurated a fitness street around Trillium Mall today as he suggested that residents take up healthy habits like cycling to reduce environmental pollution and congestion on roads.

A fitness enthusiast himself, Joshi said the street, with a 2 km cycling track and walking space, would become an example for other cities to follow.

He said, “Two crore have been spent on a cycling track made of thermoplast, which will reduce chances of injury and ensure a smooth ride.” The area has been declared no-parking zone and special boundary has been maintained for safety of children. The area for walking has also been earmarked, which will be completed soon. Lights and speakers for listening music will also be installed on the track.

“Cycle stands are also being developed from where people can rent bicycles and enjoy a healthy ride,” he added.

The Fitness Street is a first of its kind initiative by the administration. It has an open air gym with five types of equipment for fitness seekers. Joshi said, “Wi-Fi zones will be created in the north constituency, which will cover Anand Park, Company Bagh, fitness street and MC’s new office.”
