Amritsar, August 3

The district administration has asked the departments of health, rural development and child welfare to work in tandem to check the spread of dengue in the coming season.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ravinder Singh, at a meeting of representatives of the departments, said a joint team should be constituted to keep an eye on the situation. He also instructed the Municipal Corporation and Health Department to intensify the inspection drive in the walled city area to detect mosquito larva and issue challans to people for ignoring guidelines on cleanliness.

Acting Civil Surgeon Dr Prabhdeep Kaur said last year 1,247 cases were reported in the city, but only 119 from rural areas. She said the department was focussing more on urban areas to check prevalence of the disease. — TNS
