Amritsar, May 22

A day after the Amritsar rural police booked four AAP workers for culpable homicide following the death of a supporter of the Democratic Party of India (DPI), AAP candidate for the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal with supporters met SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal on Wednesday. Dhaliwal claimed that the AAP workers were falsely implicated in the case.

Dhaliwal, who is Majha zone in charge of AAP, urged the SSP to hold an impartial probe and cancel the FIR registered against four AAP workers, identified as Laddi, Resham Singh, Pinka, all residents of Jagdev Kalan, and Pamma of Nangali village.

Simran Singh, son of the deceased, stated to the police that his father Budh Singh (50) had gone out of the village for some work on May 17. He alleged that at around 11 pm, when he phoned him, the victim informed that few unknown persons had beaten him up, severely injuring him. He said he immediately reached the spot and rushed him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where he succumbed on Monday.

“Before dying, Budh Singh informed us that the accused thrashed him due to an old dispute,” the complainant said.

Supporters and family members of the DPI had on Tuesday held a demonstration at Jagdev Kalan village following which a case under Sections 304 and 34 of the IPC was registered.

Dhaliwal pointed out, “Till Tuesday, the deceased’s family members did not know who thrashed Budh Singh. Now, they suddenly named four AAP workers who had nothing to do with the incident. They have an old dispute therefore they have been unnecessarily dragged into it.”

Dhaliwal requested the SSP for getting an impartial probe conducted by an IPS-rank officer. He also urged the police not to arrest the suspects till the probe is completed.

SSP Duggal said the probe had been marked to SP (Headquarters) Baljit Singh Dhillon.
