After a nine-year-long legal battle, finally the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) paved the way for construction of proposed sports complex, a dream project of Minister of Local Bodies Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The court gave its decision in favour of the Amritsar Improvement Trust regarding the disputed eight acres of land at E block.

The AIT has also filed caveat petition in the case so the opposition party not file petition for the stay.

Navjot Singh Sidhu had announced to construct a sports complex at the land in 2010 but a local developer moved a petition in the court by claiming his ownership on eight acre land chunk from the total 27 acre land alongside the bypass road.

The foundation stone of the complex was laid in 2011. The stadium is destined to provide a world–class sports infrastructure to the players in the city.

The multipurpose site plans to have a cricket ground, athletic track, football and lawn tennis grounds to promote the sports culture in the city.

The AIT and MC have been using it as dumping ground and parking lot for solid waste management company’s vehicles.
